1972 Honda CL450K5

CL4505016113

8,820 Original Miles

I purchased this bike from the son of the late, original owner who purchased it new in 1972.

It was stored securely in his garage for many years and was not used or started for at least the last 10 years.  During storage, it was bumped over off the centerstand accidentally and the fuel tank was damaged (split seam).

I located another tank and had it and the sidecovers professionally painted in the correct color (Planet Blue Metallic).  The gas tank striping is a match for the original used on the 72/73 K5.

With only a bit over 8,800 miles, this bike looks and rides like it was only two seasons old.

The engine is smooth and powerful and roars into life with either the kickstarter or electric starter.  Crack the throttle and you remember why the 450 Hondas had such a legendary reputation back in the day.

You'll find that, with the exception of the paint and the mirrors (new reproductions of the originals) the bike is equipped with everything original as when new 40 years ago.

This includes the original toolkit in its original pouch (and pristine tools) and even the owner's manual in the storage flap under the seat.

As you can see with all of these pictures (make sure you watch the video, too) this is a really sweet-looking ride.  While it is not cosmetically perfect, it could certainly be detailed further.  I only made an initial cleaning and know that more of the other chrome will clean up as well as the areas already cleaned.

Please look carefully at all of these pictures and let me know if you have any questions.  If you are seriously interested in owning a rider/collectible of this caliber, consider the buy it now before bidding reaches the reserve.  The Buy It Now price goes away as soon as the reserve is reached.

If you are a collector or just someone who would like to own a classic Honda, you won't be disappointed in this bike.

If you just want to have a very nice mid-size bike that is sure to appreciate with each passing year, this is the bike for you.

 Condition Notes

Overall
If you look carefully at these pictures, you'll see that this is a very good looking bike that has been well maintained and kept.  Cosmetically, I'd give it about 93%.  Mechanically, it is easily a 98%.

There are a few, very minor, flaws that you can see in the pictures.

I point these out only so there are no surprises.  Look at the pictures: They are minor and not very noticeable.

The seat has a very small (1/4" flap/tear on the top surface (you'll have to blow up the photos to find it) and the bottom left edge has a worn spot.

This bike is a real "looker" but it is not perfect.  Please look carefully at all the pictures.  You will mostly see very minor cosmetic issues that you'd expect on a bike from the early-70's.

I have made every effort to note everything through description and pictures so you will have no surprises when you take delivery of this outstanding motorcycle.

If you have any questions about the bike, the photos, the video and delivery, please call my cell during the listing.

Although I have taken great pains to show you this bike in great detail and describe and known issues, please keep in mind that this is a classic bike, over 40 years old and is sold with no warranty of any kind.  Vehicle is sold as-is, where-is.  You can buy with assurance that we are a reputable and experienced seller. We have sold over 50 bikes in the last 10 years with no complaints or issues. I have personally ridden this bike during this last year and would have no problems riding it home anywhere.

A $250. deposit through Paypal (or call to put on Visa/MasterCard) is required within 3 days after the end of the auction.  If you pick up the bike here, you should bring the rest of the balance in cash.  Payment in full is required within 7 days after auction close. I will accept either Paypal or credit card for entire balance if we are delivering or shipping to you.

Delivery

You can pick up the bike here in Western Michigan at any time within 60 days. There are no storage charges, but you will still need to pay in full.  After I receive cleared payment, I will either mail you the title or hold it for your pickup.  You can bring a trailer or ride it home.  It is ready to go.

If you want delivery and have any interest in purchasing one of our Versahaul carriers (see photo at right and separate listing in our Ebay store), I'll bring you the bike on a brand-new, discounted carrier and leave with you.

If desired, I can arrange to bring the bike directly to your door for a firm, negotiated fee.  It will be pretty easy to do within about 700 miles.  I will deliver it further, but we will need to discuss prior to the end of this sale.

I can also arrange to meet you part way to minimize your drive and costs.

Shipping

If you need the bike shipped to you, I can arrange to do it through Forward Air.  This is terminal-to-terminal air shipping, so you will need to have one of their airport locations within driving distance and a trailer to bring the bike home. You could ride it home after putting gas in the tank and hooking up the battery.  You can go to the Forward Air site to calculate your shipping charges.  I will need to charge $175.00 to deliver to DTW (Detroit Metropolitan), roll it into one of their special carriers and strap it down (tie down straps are part of the price - you can keep). When you check for a shipping price, use the "EXC" container.

Sample Rates:  To New York:  $540 + $175. To Miami: $600 + $175.

International shipping is possible, but you will need to make necessary arrangements. It is possible to ship wordlwide through a licensed freight forwarder.  If you make those arrangements, I will be happy to deliver to them in Chicago for a one-way mileage fee of $1.00 per mile.
